Nairobi - The Kenya Meteorological Department issued a daily weather forecast on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, covering the period from 9:00 pm that evening through to 9:00 pm on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
The bulletin was released at 3:00 pm and outlines three distinct weather patterns set to affect different parts of the country over the next 24 hours.
Counties expecting rainfall
Wet conditions are forecast across a broad stretch of the country, with rainfall expected in parts of Migori, Homabay, Narok, Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, Kisii, Nyamira, Bomet, Kericho, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Kakamega, Kisumu, Busia, Nyeri and Embu counties.
Forecast tables from the department indicate that most of these areas will experience partly cloudy skies, with conditions ranging from sunny intervals to light showers, and thunderstorms possible over a few locations.
Maximum temperatures across the affected regions are expected to fall between 23°C and 30°C, while overnight lows are projected to range from 12°C to 19°C.
Strong winds and cool conditions elsewhere
Residents in 12 counties should brace for strong southerly winds exceeding 25 knots. The counties affected include Turkana, Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Kitui.
Separately, cool and cloudy conditions are forecast for Taita Taveta, Marsabit, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Embu, Murang'a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado and Laikipia. Several of these counties appear across more than one weather category, indicating mixed conditions are likely within their borders over the forecast period.
