"Ako wapi?": Kenyans ask why Sifuna is yet to visit Khalwale since losing wife
This story has significance for readers across Kenya and beyond.
- Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale has been receiving a stream of visitors at his home following the death of his third wife, Gloria, on August 15, 2026
- Khalwale recently endorsed Edwin Sifuna's presidential ambitions, making the Nairobi senator's absence from the condolence visits a talking point among Kenyans
- A TikTok video showing Khalwale walking at his home sparked debate, with many questioning what Sifuna's silence says about his political readiness
Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale has been at the centre of public sympathy and spotlight in equal measure since his third wife, Gloria, passed away on August 15, 2026, following a heart attack.
Since her death, leaders from the political divide, including those from the Luhya community and beyond, have been making their way to Khalwale's home to offer their condolences.
A TikTok video captured the senator walking along the brick pathway at his compound, dressed in a cream jacket, white shirt and trousers, and a black cap bearing the initials "DPM."
He appeared composed as he hosted the stream of guests arriving to pay their respects.
Edwin Sifuna's silence raises eyebrows
What caught many Kenyans off guard, however, was not who showed up but who had not.
The former ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who has been open about his presidential ambitions, is yet to visit Khalwale despite the senator having publicly endorsed him for the top seat.
That endorsement made the absence all the more glaring, with many Kenyans viewing it as a significant political misstep.
Many have been wondering because Khalwale is among the formidable Luhya leaders, and Sifuna has become a vibrant leader in their community.

Here are some of the comments from social media users:
@macdominic asked pointedly:
"So Sifuna is which type of a Luyha?"
@Pedeshiee wrote:
"Sifuna still has a long way to go indeed."
@Jose echoed that sentiment:
"Sifuna never attends these visits; we only see him during the burial."
Not all the conversation was about Sifuna, though. Several users used the moment to praise Khalwale himself.
@chrisma_tebi wrote:
"I love this politician! I have not heard of him stealing govt money, but his compound is so shiny. This compound campaigns for him. He will be governor next year. Sio lazima uibe wadau."
@Merliciuz Kagz added:
"He really deserves to be our governor."
@Jaymo flexx was equally enthusiastic:
"Our incoming governor."
@Jennifer Manga simply said:
"He's indeed a king."
For Sifuna, the optics of staying away from a grieving ally who has put his name behind his presidential bid are unlikely to go unnoticed as he works to build the cross-community support a presidential campaign demands.
