Brace for impact: Weatherman warns of rain, chilly conditions across counties

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a fresh weather advisory forecasting rain, cold conditions and strong winds across several parts of the country over the next 24 hours.
In a bulletin issued on Tuesday, August 11, at 3:00pm and valid from 9:00pm the same day to 9:00pm on Wednesday, August 12, the department said rainfall is expected in parts of Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, Busia, Kisumu, Siaya, Kericho, Trans-Nzoia, Vihiga, Nandi and Kakamega counties.
The weatherman further indicated that cool, cloudy conditions would persist intermittently in sections of Kirinyaga, Nairobi and Wajir counties, even as much of the country enjoys sunny intervals through the day.
Residents in the country's northern and coastal belts have also been warned to brace for strong winds, with the department projecting southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5m/s) over Turkana, Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Kitui counties.
A county-by-county breakdown shows Mandera recording the highest expected daytime temperature at 36°C, alongside Turkana, while Nyandarua and Nyeri are set for the coolest nights, with lows of 10°C.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms are also expected to affect parts of West Pokot, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Nakuru, Kericho, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, Siaya, Kisumu, Kisii and Nyamira counties in the afternoon.
According to rainfall data recorded between 9:00am on August 10 and 9:00am on August 11, Nakuru station registered the highest amount at just over 10mm, followed by Kericho at approximately 8mm, while Lamu recorded around 3.5mm.
