Brace for rain: Weatherman forecasts 16 counties to be wet Sunday, sunny

The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall in 16 counties over the next 24 hours, even as much of the country enjoys sunny intervals through Sunday afternoon.

In its daily forecast issued on Saturday, August 15, and valid from 9 pm that night to 9 pm on Sunday, August 16, the department said rain is expected in parts of Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, Kisii, Nyamira, Nyandarua, Bomet, Kericho, Narok, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Vihiga, Nandi, West Pokot, Samburu and Kakamega counties.

Despite the wet forecast in the west and parts of the Rift Valley, the department projects sunny intervals across most of the country by Sunday afternoon, including Nairobi, the Coast and much of the north.

Marsabit, Murang'a, Nyeri, Nyandarua and Laikipia counties are expected to experience intermittent cool and cloudy conditions, while strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 metres per second) are forecast over Turkana, Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Kitui counties.

Mandera is set to record the day's highest temperature at 37°C, while Nyandarua will be the coolest, with a low of 10°C overnight and a high of just 20°C during the day.

In Nairobi, temperatures are expected to range between 13°C and 23°C, with partly cloudy conditions overnight giving way to sunny intervals by the afternoon.

The department's rainfall data for the 24 hours to 9:00 a.m. on Saturday showed Ruruma-Mikomani and Eldoret Meteorological Station recording the heaviest rainfall, each above 4mm, while Mtwapa and Mwanamwinga recorded negligible amounts.
