Nairobi - Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has issued a stern warning to the Ruto administration, demanding that it stop targeting retired president Uhuru Kenyatta and calling on President William Ruto to consider stepping down immediately if he feels he has failed to deliver on his campaign promises.

Nyoro made the remarks on Monday, August 24, at the People's Party of Kenya offices, where he was receiving members defecting to the party.

Nyoro defends Uhuru Kenyatta

The MP took direct aim at the administration over what he described as an obsession with attacking the former Head of State rather than focusing on governance.

Nyoro said Uhuru Kenyatta played no part in the promises Ruto made to Kenyans before the 2022 General Election, and that targeting him was both a distraction and a betrayal of voters.

"The other day we saw the President doing an interview, and I want to remind them that Uhuru Kenyatta was not part of this government's manifesto. Insulting him was not part of the plan of this failed wheelbarrow government," Nyoro said.

He went further, urging the government to respect the former president's legacy.

"I want to send a very clear message to this government. Leave Uhuru Kenyatta alone! He is a man who is respected across the whole country. He did his work and retired with grace," the MP warned.

MP calls on Ruto to step down

Nyoro did not stop at defending his predecessor. He turned his attention to what he described as Ruto's failure to honour the pledges that defined his presidential campaign, and challenged the incumbent to vacate office without waiting for voters to decide in 2027.

"If you feel like you have failed to deliver on the promises you made, you do not have to wait until the 2027 elections. You can do Kenyans a favour by packing your bags and going home now," he stated.

The remarks represent an escalation in Nyoro's rhetoric against the administration. The Kiharu lawmaker has in recent months positioned himself as one of the more vocal critics of the Ruto government, and his appearance at the People's Party of Kenya offices signals a deepening alignment with opposition circles ahead of the next election cycle.
