JIM Caucus shifts focus to citizen uptake of government programmes
This story has significance for readers across Kenya and beyond.
The Jamii Imara Mashinani (JIM) Caucus will prioritise helping citizens access and take up Government programmes after a year of engagements showed the need to move beyond public awareness to adoption of available services.
JIM Chairperson and Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, announced the focus during a retreat in Kajiado County convened to assess the Caucus’ first year and determine its next phase of engagement.
“Over the past year, JIM has held 22 engagements across 14 counties, creating direct platforms for citizens to interact with senior Government officials, seek information and provide feedback on service delivery,” said PS Muthoni.
PS Muthoni said the Caucus will strengthen its two-way engagement model, through which the Government explains its programmes while listening to citizens’ experiences, concerns and priorities.
She highlighted progress in key Government programmes, including the registration of more than 32 million Kenyans with the Social Health Authority and the disbursement of over KSh5.5 billion to 122,000 young entrepreneurs.
More than 6,000 kilometres of roads are also under construction. The retreat was attended by Kenya National Highways Authority Chairperson Winnie Ngumi, JIM Convener Peter Mucendu, KICC Chief Executive Officer Uncle Sam, NEMA Chairperson Emilio Mugo, Kenya Biovax Chairperson Dr Charles Githinji and Kenya Water Institute Chairperson Patrick Musili Mbangula, among other officials.
