"So excited": Aunty Jemimah to host day-long African arts festival, iToka
This story has significance for readers across Kenya and beyond.
- iToka Chapter 2 brings together musicians, visual artists and fashion designers for a full day of African creativity at Eva's Garden in Redhill, Limuru
- The festival draws its name from a Gikuyu word for boundary plants and reimagines that concept as a space for cultural connection
- TUKO.co.ke delved into the event featuring performers including Cedo, Addeh Prince, and Leting
Something rooted in Gikuyu heritage is being given a completely new life this August.
On Saturday, 29 August 2026, Eva's Garden in Redhill, Limuru, will host iToka Chapter 2, the second edition of a cultural festival that blends live music, visual art, fashion and a creative marketplace into a single day of African storytelling.
Its name reaches back into local tradition: iToka is a Gikuyu term originally associated with plants used to mark land boundaries.
Organisers have deliberately reframed that meaning, describing the festival as "a space of belonging, discovery, and connection" rather than one of division or separation.
Tuwashow Media founder Chira Njoroge laid out the thinking behind the gathering:
"iToka was created to celebrate African creativity while providing a platform where artists, entrepreneurs, and cultural practitioners can connect with audiences and new opportunities. Chapter 2 is about taking that vision further by creating meaningful experiences that celebrate our heritage while embracing the future of African creativity."
The music lineup confirmed for the day includes Addeh Prince, Nyawira Siren, iNala, Folk Fusion, Flow Flaani, Leting and CEDO.
Hosts Aunty Jemimah and Kibunja will lead audiences through the programme, while DJ Maina Rada Safi and DJ J.Y. handle the sound between sets.
A thrilled Jemimah wrote:
"I'm so excited to be your MC for iToka – The Crossings! An experience of music, culture and beautiful people. I’ll be on the mic making sure we have the time of our lives!"
One of the performers offered a sense of what to expect on the day:
"iToka Chapter 2 is exactly the kind of stage African artists need right now — a place where the music, the stories and the energy can travel freely without walls. I'm coming to Limuru ready to share something raw and rooted, and I can't wait to feel that connection with everyone who shows up."
Beyond the performances, attendees will find curated visual-art installations, a fashion showcase and a creative marketplace where entrepreneurs can display and sell their work.
