Kenya's Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy has opened a public participation exercise on a draft Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Other Emerging Technologies Policy.
It gave citizens and stakeholders until Tuesday, August 4, 2026, to submit their views.
The ministry developed the policy through a multi-stakeholder committee tasked with building a coherent national framework covering the governance, development, deployment, and use of artificial intelligence alongside other emerging technologies.
"The ministry invites members of the public, stakeholders, and all interested parties to submit their views, comments, and recommendations on the proposed policy, which will inform its review," it stated in a notice published in MyGov on Tuesday, July 21.
What is the process to submit views?
According to the public notice issued by the State Department for ICT and the Digital Economy, the policy is designed to promote innovation, strengthen Kenya's infrastructure and human capital, support sustainable development, and bolster the country's economic resilience and strategic autonomy.
The mnistry cited the Constitution of Kenya, which requires public participation in policy-making, as the basis for the call for submissions.
Members of the public, stakeholders, and interested parties are invited to submit written comments using a provided template.
Submissions should be directed to the Committee on AI and Other Emerging Technologies by electronic mail to aipolicy@moict.go.ke, with a copy to legal@moict.go.ke, or by post to the chairperson of the committee, and another copy to the Principal Secretary, at the 10th Floor of Telposta Towers.
The full draft policy is accessible on the ministry's official website.
The public participation exercise reflects a broader push by the Kenyan government to regulate and harness AI as adoption of the technology accelerates across sectors including finance, healthcare, and public administration.
