CCTV footage captures thieves raiding into ex-GSU officer's home, stealing cash
This story has significance for readers across Kenya and beyond.
A suspected gang of six raided the home of retired General Service Unit (GSU) Commander Ranson Lolmodooni inside the Kitengela Police Sacco Estate in Kajiado County on Sunday, August 16, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
According to police reports, the criminals gained access to the upscale residential estate, which houses both serving and retired police officers, by posing as worshippers heading to a prayer meeting. Once inside, they used cutting tools to force their way into Lolmodooni's residence. The former GSU Commander retired from the position in June 2025 after a two-year tenure.
A message shared in the estate's security WhatsApp group described the group as four armed men and two women who entered through deception before stealing the cash. As they attempted to flee, a security guard moved to block their vehicle at the main gate. CCTV footage captured two of the suspects beating the guard with punches, kicks, and clubs before overpowering him and driving off in the direction of Isinya.
Neighbours revealed that KSh 1,000 notes were found scattered along 5th Road within the estate, with witnesses adding that the fleeing suspects threw banknotes at guards and bystanders during their escape.
One of the vehicles used in the raid was later found abandoned in Isinya town, approximately 21 kilometres from the estate. Police recovered several vehicle registration plates, additional cash, and a pistol believed to belong to the former officer.
Despite the accounts from neighbours and security personnel, Lolmodooni disputed reports that money was taken from his home.
"There was an attempted robbery at my place. Neighbors realized what was happening and raised the alarm. No money was stolen. We do not keep cash at home. That is just a rumor," he said.
Kajiado County Police Commander Alex Shikondi confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that no suspects have been arrested as of the time of the incident.
The raid occurred against a backdrop of rising insecurity in Kitengela. Over the preceding two weeks, three men were killed in separate incidents, while numerous residents sustained injuries during night-time attacks by criminal gangs operating in the area.
