Two suspects, a
mother and son, linked to the murder of clinical psychologist and researcher Dr.
Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, were on Friday arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts as
the prosecution sought to detain them for 30 days to allow detectives to
complete investigations.
The latest
developments come as investigators explore a possible link between Dr Mutiso's
killing and the fatal shooting of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu last year.
The two suspects,
Rose Mbithe Mulwa and her son Chris Mulwa, appeared before the Milimani Law
Courts after they were arrested on Thursday in Karen during what detectives
described as an intelligence-led operation.
The prosecution
asked the court to allow investigators to detain the pair for 30 days as
investigations into the murder of Dr. Mutiso continue.
In an application
supported by an affidavit sworn by Corporal Romana Odour, investigators told
the court that Dr. Mutiso had reported two separate incidents in which unknown
men riding a motorcycle allegedly trailed and threatened her before she was
fatally shot.
According to the
affidavit, on July 7, 2026, Dr. Mutiso was driving along Ngong Road near
Junction Mall when two men on a motorcycle allegedly pointed a gun at her and
attempted to shoot her. She escaped unharmed and later reported the incident at
Kilimani Police Station.
Police further
state that after the incident, Dr. Mutiso informed investigators and her
husband that she had identified the pillion passenger on the motorcycle as
Chris Mulwa.
The prosecution
says Rose Mbithe Mulwa is the former wife of Dr. Mutiso's husband, Prof. David
Musyimi Ndetei. The two reportedly divorced in 2001 after having four children
together, including Chris Mulwa.
As investigations
entered their third day, detectives widened the probe to determine whether Dr.
Mutiso's killing is linked to the murder of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, who was
shot dead in September 2025.
The new line of
inquiry follows revelations that Mbobu represented Prof. Ndetei in a property
dispute involving his former wife, Rose Mbithe Mulwa.
The case, filed in
2002, centred on the ownership and division of matrimonial assets, including
land and property worth billions of shillings.
Investigators are
also examining similarities between the two killings.
Mbobu was
reportedly trailed before he was gunned down along Magadi Road on September 9,
2025.
Her killing came
24 days after she reported receiving threats to her life at Kilimani Police
Station.
"On the 7th
day of July at around 18:30 hours, I was driving from Upper Hill towards home
behind Junction Mall...while at Dagoretti Corner junction I stopped at the
traffic lights immediately one rider came to the window and showed me a pistol.
I drove off through the traffic lights to the opposite direction to Kilimani
Police Station to make a report,” read the affidavit.
As detectives
intensify the hunt for those behind the killing, an autopsy conducted on Dr.
Mutiso's body revealed that she was shot three times.
