The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua
has stated that his party is the only political outfit to beat in the Mt. Kenya
region, urging residents not to be swayed by the growing number of political
parties seeking to establish a foothold in the region.
Gachagua made the remarks during a series of meet-the-people
tours in Nyeri County, where he led a delegation from the Wiper Patriotic Front
in rallying support for DCP ahead of next year's General Election.
The DCP leader toured Karatina, Gatitu and Nyeri Town as he continued
to consolidate support for the party in his Mt. Kenya backyard.
Gachagua warned other political parties seeking to gain ground
in the region that DCP was there to stay.
“Na tumesema hapa Milimani chama ni moja, kiongozi ni moja.
Kutoka governor mpaka chini, chama ni DCP,” Gachagua said.
DCP Secretary General John Methu reinforced the message,
asking residents to rally behind the party in next year's elections.
“Hapa Mathira mtachagua mbunge na chama gani? DCP. Governor
chama gani? DCP. Women Rep?
Methu had earlier taken aim at Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro's new
People's Party of Kenya, accusing President William Ruto of using emerging
political parties to divide the Mt. Kenya region ahead of the 2027 elections.
“This wheelbarrow that is coming from Murang’a, we know you
had a wheelbarrow coming. We know there is another wheelbarrow that is coming
from Laikipia and Nakuru as you try to divide this mountain. Bring them on. A
wheelbarrow is a wheelbarrow and it will be dealt with like the other
wheelbarrow,” Methu stated.
During his rallies, Gachagua also sustained his criticism of
President Ruto, arguing that the opposition's growing support in the Ukambani
region could be enough to deny the President a second term.
“Huyu Kasongo anapanga kugawa mlima ati Mt. Kenya East and
West, ati atoe Kiambu.
South,” Gachagua stated.
Wiper leaders accompanying Gachagua also rallied support for
the opposition alliance.
“Kama huku chama ni DCP, kwetu Wiper nayo inafagia. Tumekuja
kujiunga na nyinyi kwa hii safari,” Kathiani MP Robert Mbui stated.
Wiper Patriotic Front deputy party leader designate Mohammed
Ali also accused the government of using goons to disrupt opposition
activities.
“Murkomen na Kasongo, mmezidi kuleta goons. Kama serikali
haiwezi tulinda, itakuwa ni jukumu la kila mtu kujilinda. Wangapi
wanakubaliana?” Ali posed.
