Ottichilo hails Jhpiego partnership in maternal, child health in vihiga

Vihiga County Governor Wilbert Khasilwa Ottichilo, has commended the partnership between the County Government of Vihiga and Johns Hopkins Program for International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics (Jhpiego), saying it has significantly improved maternal, newborn and child healthcare services across the County.
Speaking after hosting Dr. Allyson Bear, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Jhpiego, who paid him a courtesy call at his office, Ottichilo said the collaboration through The Momentum Country and Global Leadership (MCGL) project has yielded tremendous progress.
“Our discussions centered on the tremendous progress we have made in maternal, newborn and child healthcare programs across Vihiga County. This progress is a testament to the strong partnership between the County Government of Vihiga and Jhpiego through the ‘The Momentum Country and Global Leadership (MCGL) project’”, he said.
The Governor added that the partnership has strengthened the capacity of healthcare workers and contributed to the reduction of maternal and child mortality in the County.
“Through this partnership, our healthcare workers have benefitted from various capacity-building and training programs, strengthening their skills and contributing significantly to the reduction of maternal and child mortality in the County”, he said.
Ottichilo noted that health facilities in the County have also received essential medical equipment from the Jhpiego-MCGL project, which has enhanced the quality and accessibility of maternal and child healthcare services.
The Governor appreciated Dr. Allyson Bear for the visit and for donating additional equipment to further strengthen maternal and child health services in the County.
“We sincerely appreciate Dr. Allyson Bear for the visit and generous donation of additional equipment, which will further strengthen maternal and child health services in our County”, Ottichilo said.
He further expressed optimism that the partnership will continue to grow in order to improve health outcomes for mothers and children in Vihiga.
“We look forward to deepening this partnership as we work together to improve health outcomes and ensure better healthcare for mothers and children in Vihiga County”, he added.
