Nairobi - The Kenya Meteorological Department released a 24-hour weather forecast on Monday, August 10, detailing expected conditions across 12 counties for the period ending 9pm on Tuesday, August 11.
The forecast covered counties in the Rift Valley, Western Kenya, Nairobi, and the Lake Victoria basin, outlining temperature ranges and anticipated rainfall patterns for morning, afternoon, and evening periods.
Counties Expected to Receive Rainfall
Several counties were placed on notice for evening thunderstorms and showers. Nandi and Kericho were forecast to experience moderate showers and thunderstorms over a few places during the evening and night hours, with both counties recording similar maximum temperatures of 24°C and minimum temperatures of 12°C and 12°C respectively.
"Rainfall expected in some parts of Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, Busia, Kisumu, Siaya, Kericho, Kakamega, TransNzoia, Vihiga, Nandi, Kakamega, and Nandi counties," Kenya Met said.
Kakamega and Kisumu were also flagged for light showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Kakamega was additionally forecast to receive light showers in the morning, making it one of the few counties expected to see rainfall across multiple periods of the day. Kisumu recorded the joint highest maximum temperature in the forecast at 32°C, alongside Baringo.
Baringo, which shared that 32°C maximum, was not expected to receive any rainfall, with sunny intervals projected across all three periods of the day.
Nairobi and Other Counties to Stay Dry
Nairobi was forecast to remain largely dry throughout Tuesday, with partly cloudy conditions in the morning giving way to sunny intervals in the afternoon and evening. The capital's temperatures were projected to range between a minimum of 12°C and a maximum of 25°C.
Nakuru, Narok, Kajiado, Bomet, and Laikipia followed a similar pattern, all forecast for partly cloudy mornings and sunny intervals through the afternoon and evening with no rainfall expected. Bomet recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the forecast at 11°C.
Across all 12 counties, mornings were uniformly forecast as partly cloudy, while afternoons were expected to bring sunny intervals regardless of later rainfall activity.
