"A dream": Ronaldo, wife give reason why they got married in living room
This story has significance for readers across Kenya and beyond.
- Cristiano Ronaldo, 41, and Georgina Rodríguez, 32, quietly exchanged vows on 10 August, marking 10 years since they first met
- Georgina revealed the unconventional venue choice in a candid Vogue interview published days after the ceremony
- The couple hinted at a larger celebration in the future, with family and friends included
Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez did not need a grand castle or a celebrity-studded guest list for their wedding.
The couple chose something far more personal, and the reasoning behind it is genuinely touching.
The pair officially married on August 10, a date that holds special significance as it marks the exact anniversary of the day they first crossed paths a decade ago, when Rodríguez was working at a Gucci store in Madrid.
Why they said 'I Do' at home
In an interview with Vogue published on Sunday, Rodríguez explained that the couple had a very deliberate reason for choosing their living room as the setting.
"We've chosen to do it in the living room of our house here, where we have breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and where we live the reality of our lives," she told the magazine.
The 32-year-old model said she wants their children to look back on the space with warmth decades from now.
"In 30 years' time I want the children to think, 'Something wonderful happened at this table the wedding vows of our parents,'" she said. Ronaldo, ever the comedian, quipped back: "It probably won't be the same table. We might change the decor."
Rodríguez admitted that her childhood dreams looked very different.
"When I was a little girl, I dreamt of the biggest castle, the biggest carriage, the longest dress, a crown full of diamonds. And now I'm saying: no," she said, adding that castles, islands and cars are things the couple can access any day, but true intimacy is rarer.
The ceremony came after what Rodríguez described as 'a crazy year' packed with work, competitions and the demands of raising a large family.
She was determined not to let their anniversary pass without marking it in some meaningful way.
A promise of a bigger celebration
The intimate home ceremony was not the end of the story. Rodríguez confirmed that a larger wedding with family and friends is on the cards for the future.
Shortly after the vows, she sent a message to Vogue:
"It was exactly as I'd imagined it. Intimate, full of love, and with our family in the most important starring role. I couldn't hold back the tears."
The couple got engaged in August 2025. Rodríguez announced the news alongside photos of a striking 37-carat engagement ring, captioning the post:
"Yes, I do. In this and in all my lives."
Together, Ronaldo and Rodríguez are parents to daughters Alana, 8, and Bella, 4. Ronaldo is also father to 16-year-old Cristiano Jr. and 9-year-old twins Eva and Mateo, born via surrogacy in 2017.
The couple has spoken openly about the loss of Bella's twin brother, Ángel, who died at birth.
Charlene Ruto's engagement
Closer to home, President William Ruto's daughter Charlene Ruto got engaged in Kilgoris.
The politician's daughter and her parner, Isaya Yunge looked spectacular for the special day.
Isaya also shared a promise to always love and protect his future wife.
