KRA Lists Kenya Power, Unga Farm Care Consignments for Auction - Kahawatungu
This story has significance for readers across Kenya and beyond.
The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has listed consignments belonging to Kenya Power and Lighting Company, Unga Farm Care (EA) Limited, Enzi Motors Company Limited and several other businesses and individuals as overstayed goods in customs warehouses.
The affected owners have been given 30 days to enter and remove their consignments from customs custody, failure to which the goods will be treated as abandoned and disposed of, including through public auction.
A notice published in the Kenya Gazette on August 14, 2026, said the goods would be disposed of in accordance with the East African Community Customs Management Act (EACCMA), 2004.
“Unless the under-mentioned goods are entered and removed from the custody of the Customs Warehouse Keeper, Inland Container Depot Nairobi within thirty (30) days of this notice, they will be treated as abandoned and will be disposed of in accordance with the provisions of EACCMA, 2004 including being sold by public auction,” the notice states.
KRA has scheduled the auction for September 28, 29 and 30 and October 1 and 2, 2026, through its online auction platform. Prospective buyers will be allowed to inspect the goods on September 24 and 25 at the locations specified in the Gazette notice.
Among the consignments listed at the Inland Container Depot in Nairobi are seven lots belonging to Kenya Power.
The consignments, which arrived aboard the vessel Kota Segar on April 2, 2026, comprise a combined 1,782 packages of power-line hardware, accessories and meter boxes.
The seven lots are held at the Syokimau Inland Container Depot and are listed under lot numbers 3301/EMK/CW/H/26 through 3307/EMK/CW/H/26.
The Gazette notice does not state why the consignments remained in customs custody and does not indicate that Kenya Power had failed to pay taxes or other charges.
Unga Farm Care is also listed against eight 40-foot containers aboard the vessel Ef Olivia carrying Indian non-GMO soyabean.
The consignments have dates in of April 27 and April 29, 2026, and are linked to bill of lading number EMIVINDMUN230182. They are listed at the Inland Container Depot in Nairobi.
The list also contains several consignments connected to the automotive industry.
Enzi Motors Company Limited is listed against a 40-foot container aboard MSC Guernsey V, with a date in of April 11, 2026. The container contains 175 packages of electric motorbikes and related spare parts and is held at Chai Logistics.
Ply City Limited is listed against another 40-foot container aboard Lady Jane, which has a date in of April 3, 2026. The container contains 27 packages of plywood and is also held at Chai Logistics.
A separate Chai Logistics entry under Priya Hiten Mehta involves a 20-foot container aboard MSC Aquarius VII, with a date in of April 8, 2026. The consignment contains personal effects and a used Mahindra Thar Roxx AX5 1D 4WD.
Marine Divers Cargo Logistics Limited is listed against a 20-foot container aboard Maersk Cairo, with a date in of November 25, 2025. It contains 700 kilogrammes of consolidation cargo, including spare parts, household items and models.
Two empty 40-foot containers belonging to Christine Baig of Tausi Farms Kitale are also listed. Both are aboard Kota Megah, with a date in of April 5, 2020, and are held at the Nairobi Inland Container Depot.
Another older consignment involves Amhar Trading Limited, whose 40-foot container aboard Nordwinter has a date in of January 4, 2020.
The goods are described as a Toyota Hiace commuter chassis, with the Gazette providing chassis, engine and registration details. The consignment is listed at the Nairobi Container Terminal.
The KRA notice also lists consignments containing tomato-processing equipment, air-filter equipment, paper reels, polyboard, pharmaceuticals and used household and personal effects.
Four consignments aboard Ren Jian 26, all dated April 10, 2026, are listed under Wakiba Investments Limited. They contain 41, 13, 21 and 124 packages of tomato-processing line equipment.
Several consignments belonging to Pressmaster Africa Limited are also listed. They include consignments containing 19, 28, 22 and 22 packages of paper reels aboard Ren Jian 26 at the Nairobi Inland Container Terminal.
Another Pressmaster Africa consignment aboard Seaspian New Delhi, with a date in of April 27, 2026, contains 63 pieces of polyboard.
Unifilters Kenya Limited is listed against a consignment aboard Salerno Express, dated April 17, 2026, containing 622 pieces of air-filter and hydraulic air-filter equipment. The goods are held at Compact Freight.
A 40-foot container aboard Chance, dated April 9, 2026, is listed under Unicef South Sudan. It contains 35 packages of recreation kits and is held at the Airport Customs Freight Station in Nairobi.
Another 40-foot container aboard MSC Aquarius VII, also dated April 9, is listed under Ags Worldwide Movers Limited. It contains 446 packages of used household and personal effects and is also held at the Airport Customs Freight Station.
B D Pharmaceuticals Ltd is listed against a consignment aboard Navios Summer, dated April 20, 2026. The shipment contains 1,750 packages of pharmaceutical products, including ivermectin injection and albendazole oral suspension, with Uganda listed as the destination.
The auction notice was issued under Section 42 of the EACCMA, which provides for the disposal of goods that remain in customs warehouses beyond the prescribed period.
However, inclusion in the auction list does not necessarily mean that an importer has evaded taxes or deliberately failed to clear a consignment.
KRA guidance provides for goods advertised for auction to be withdrawn before the sale where an owner establishes ownership and meets the applicable customs requirements.
This includes entering the goods, making the required declarations and paying applicable taxes and other charges.
KRA also says goods listed for auction are subject to verification by Customs and other relevant government agencies. Goods that fail applicable quality standards, are expired or are counterfeit may be destroyed rather than sold.
The affected businesses and individuals therefore have an opportunity to regularise their consignments before the auction dates, subject to meeting the requirements set by Customs.
The scheduled auction will run from September 28 to October 2, 2026, while prospective buyers will be allowed to inspect the goods on September 24 and 25.
