The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued its Sunday, August 23, weather forecast, predicting a mix of rainfall, cloudy intervals and sunshine across much of the country.
The department's update, released on Saturday, lists 18 counties where showers are expected, including Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Bungoma, Nyandarua, Mombasa, Narok, Kisii, Trans Nzoia, Vihiga, Kajiado, Kisumu, Nyamira, Migori, Uasin Gishu, Kwale, Kilifi and Lamu.
The list represents a broader geographical spread of anticipated rainfall compared to the preceding day's outlook.
Western and Central Kenya Weather
Western Kenya is projected to see the most vigorous rainfall activity of any region on Sunday. Counties including Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Kisumu, Kisii and Nyamira face light showers and thunderstorms expected to occur both overnight and into the afternoon.
In central Kenya, Nairobi included, Kiambu, Murang'a and Kirinyaga are forecast to receive light showers overnight and in the morning before conditions shift to sunny intervals and localised afternoon showers.
Nairobi should record a daytime high of 26°C alongside an overnight low of 14°C.
Nyandarua is expected to be the coldest county in the forecast, with temperatures dipping to 9°C overnight and showers expected during the afternoon.
Coast and Northern Counties
Along the coast, Mombasa, Kwale and Kilifi are all expected to experience partly cloudy skies accompanied by light showers overnight and into Sunday morning, with conditions clearing to sunny intervals during the afternoon.
Mombasa is forecast to reach a high of 29°C with a low of 23°C.
In northeastern Kenya, Mandera is set to record the highest temperature in the country at 37°C, with Garissa and Wajir each forecast to reach 34°C under predominantly sunny skies throughout the day.
Sections of Taita Taveta, Marsabit, Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Embu, Murang'a, Nyeri, Machakos, Makueni, Nairobi, Kajiado and Laikipia are expected to experience intermittent cool and cloudy conditions at various points during the day.
Strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 metres per second) are also forecast over Turkana, Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Kitui counties.
