The United Arab Emirates has expanded its visa-on-arrival programme to include nationals from six countries, with the changes taking effect immediately, authorities.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs jointly confirmed that ordinary passport holders from Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Kenya, and South Africa are now eligible, along with their family members.
Who qualifies for the UAE visa on arrival?
Eligibility is not automatic. Applicants must hold a valid residence permit issued by one of nine specified countries or blocs: the United States, any European Union member state, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, or Canada.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the expansion reflects the country's commitment to strengthening ties with partner nations.
"This initiative creates greater opportunities for nationals of these countries to experience the UAE's unique cultural landscape, world-class tourism offerings, dynamic economy, attractive business environment, and globally recognised infrastructure," the Ministry said in its official release.
Visa fees and overstay penalties
The ICP outlined a two-tier visa structure to accommodate different travel needs. A 14-day visa is available at a fee of AED 100 (approximately KSh 3,700) and may be extended once during the holder's stay in the UAE.
A 60-day visa costs AED 250 (approximately KSh 9,200) and is intended for longer visits, though it carries no extension option under any circumstances.
Travellers are required to depart the country before their visa expires. Any individual who overstays will be charged a fine of AED 50 (approximately KSh 1,850) per day.
The Ministry added that it would continue coordinating with national authorities to streamline consular procedures and support the movement of travellers, as part of the UAE's broader strategy to position itself as a global hub for business, investment, and tourism.
