Speaking on Friday during an event for United Democratic Alliance (UDA) polling centre officials in Tharaka Nithi County, Kindiki said Ruto had faced attempts to remove him from office while he served as Uhuru’s deputy but remained in office until the end of their political partnership.
“Unajua huyu rais wetu hapo mwisho mwisho alikosana na boss wake, lakini walijaribu kumtoa William Ruto, wakashindwa. Tulikaza msimamo mpaka mwisho,” Kindiki said.
This translates to: “You know, towards the end, our President fell out with his boss; they tried to oust William Ruto but failed. We stood firm to the very end.”
Kindiki appeared to hit out at DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua, who was removed from the Deputy President’s office through an impeachment process in 2024.
“Wale waliofukuzwa ni watu kidogo kidogo. Deputy President unafukuzwa Kenya ukiwa wapi? It’s impossible,” he added.
This translates to, “Only small people are chased away. You can’t be removed as deputy President otherwise.”
The remarks come against the backdrop of renewed political debate over the Deputy President’s position ahead of the 2027 General Election, including tensions within the broad-based government over potential coalition arrangements.
