Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has hit back at his predecessor Rigathi Gachagua, dismissing his criticism of his voice and accusing him of incompetence, political opportunism and undermining the Kenya Kwanza administration.

In a social media post on Sunday, Kindiki said Gachagua’s comments about his voice reflected his alleged lack of meaningful contribution to debates on politics, policy and leadership.

“Talking about my voice is the only contribution your emptiness and incompetence can make in matters politics, policy and leadership,” Kindiki said.

Kindiki took aim at Gachagua’s political career, describing his tenure as Mathira MP and Deputy President in disparaging terms.

He accused Gachagua of forcing his way into the 2022 presidential campaign as President William Ruto’s running mate by organizing demonstrations in Mathira to pressure the party leadership.

Kindiki further alleged that Gachagua’s political conduct led to strained relations with leaders within the Kenya Kwanza administration and the wider Mount Kenya region where both of them hail from.

The Deputy President also dismissed Gachagua’s previous claims that he had interfered with efforts to address the alcohol problem during his tenure as Interior Cabinet Secretary.

“As Interior Minister during the two years of your colourless tenure, I never involved myself in politics even for a day,” Kindiki argued.

He accused Gachagua of concentrating on personal business interests while serving as Deputy President and of inciting Kenyans against a government he was part of.

“I was focused on protecting Kenya from bandits, terrorists and criminals as you were building hotels, acquiring land and inciting people against the same Government that you were serving as Deputy President,” he added.

According to Kindiki, he had previously advised Gachagua to repair his relationship with President Ruto and other leaders but claimed the former Deputy President ignored his advice.

He also accused Gachagua of attempting to sabotage the administration, saying he declined to participate in what he described as efforts to undermine a government they had jointly formed.

Kindiki insisted that their administration remained focused on issues that motivated its formation, including infrastructure, markets, electricity and agricultural commodity prices even after Gachagua had left the government.

Responding to the personal nature of Gachagua’s criticism, Kindiki said he would not descend to the same level by discussing the former Deputy President’s physical appearance.

“You can mock my voice all you want. But I won’t stoop to your lowly level by trying to respond or by discussing your not so great anatomy,” he said.

The latest exchange adds to the growing political rivalry between Gachagua and leaders President William Ruto allies as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Earlier on Sunday, Gachagua accused Kindiki and Ruto whom he described as “Kasongo” for teaming up and revamping alcohol menace in Gatundu and Kiambu which he claimed is finishing off his community.

During his rally, Gachagua referred to Kindiki as 'Soprano' and a good for nothing deputy president.
