Kenyan content creator Nyako has sent the internet into a frenzy after going live on TikTok and calmly announcing that she has made up her mind to marry a fellow woman.
In the clip, shared by blogger Ann Kush on 20 August 2026, Nyako did not hold back, explaining her decision with striking conviction.
"Sasa nimeamua kuolewa na mwanamke mwenzangu. Na hivyo ndivyo iko," she said, which translates to: "I have decided to be married to a fellow woman. And that is how it is."
Nyako's message to her critics
Rather than shy away from the backlash she anticipated, Nyako addressed it head-on. She said she had no interest in the opinions of others and was prepared to answer only to God.
"That is where I found love. That is my destiny, where I am now. This lady is my destiny," she said.
She revealed that her girlfriend was initially expected to visit her that month but was held back by family reasons.
Despite the delay, Nyako made it clear the relationship was serious and long-term, describing the commitment in terms of a traditional vow: "in poverty, in richness, till death do us part."
Nyako's plan for her three children
One of the most striking parts of the live stream came when Nyako spoke about what would happen to her children should she pass away.
She said her girlfriend, who has no children of her own, would take full responsibility for all three of them.
"Watoto wangu itakuwa ni jukumu ya mke wangu," she said, meaning her children would become her wife's responsibility.
She added that she would, in turn, inherit her girlfriend's dog, the only living thing her partner has to pass on. The matter-of-fact way she laid this out clearly caught viewers off guard.
Nyako also used the moment to reflect on hardship and forgiveness, telling her audience that struggle is a necessary part of life and that nobody is beyond making mistakes.
She credited sharing with those in need as something that has brought her genuine healing.
