"Msilete ujinga": Gachagua lectures Ngirici's supporters, praises Murango
This story has significance for readers across Kenya and beyond.
- Rigathi Gachagua denied Wangui Ngirici a chance to address a DCP rally in Kiang'ombe, Kirinyaga county
- Ngirici's supporters accused Gachagua of planning to impose Senator James Murango as the party's gubernatorial candidate
- Gachagua warned youth chanting Ngirici's name that they risked being evicted from the rally for disorderly conduct
Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has once again shut out former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici from addressing a party rally, this time held in Kiang'ombe, Gichugu constituency, Kirinyaga county.
Ngirici, who is seeking the Kirinyaga governorship on a DCP ticket, attended the rally expecting to be given the floor to pitch her candidacy to residents.
However, she was passed over while most other aspirants vying under the DCP banner were allowed to speak, including Senator James Kamau Murango, who is also contesting for the same gubernatorial seat.
Ngirici Waves to the Crowd as Tensions Rise
Realising she would not be called upon, Ngirici rose from her seat and waved to the crowd, drawing a mix of cheers and jeers from those present. The gesture triggered commotion at the venue, prompting Gachagua to step in and call for calm.
Addressing the rally, the former deputy president directed sharp words at youth who were chanting Ngirici's name, warning that those causing disruptions risked being removed from the venue.
"Tell your supporters to be orderly. No one will be denied a chance to speak. But let me say this: this party has been here in Kirinyaga in peace for two years. You can't come today and cause us problems. I have never seen this nonsense here in Kirinyaga. To bring nonsense here. This is my meeting," Gachagua said.
He further stated that any aspirant whose supporters bring disorder to DCP rallies would forfeit their chance to fly the party's flag in the elections.
Ngirici Supporters Accuse Gachagua of Favouring Murango
The incident deepened suspicions among Ngirici's backers that Gachagua is working to position Senator Murango, a close political ally since the 2022 general election, as the party's preferred candidate for Kirinyaga governor.
Rigathi Gachagua comforts Johana Ng'eno's mother after second son's death: "Will of God is absolute"
"Gachagua wants to impose Kamau Murango as Kirinyaga county governor against the wishes of the voters who are agitating for Wangui Ngirici," one of Ngirici's supporters said.
During his address, Gachagua openly praised Murango as a loyal and bold leader who had stood with him since his impeachment as deputy president in 2024.
"I want to thank your senator, Kamau Murango, for standing with our community and refusing to betray us. I'm very grateful and I want to assure you that I will continue standing with those who defend our community because if you see someone who has refused to be bought by President William Ruto, that is a real man who can be trusted in future. Isn't Murango a real man? posed Gachagua.
This is not the first time Ngirici has been sidelined at a DCP gathering, raising questions about her standing within the party ahead of the 2027 General Election.
