Muguga Agricity Housing project takes shape in Kikuyu
This story has significance for readers across Kenya and beyond.
Construction of the first phase of the Muguga Agricity Affordable Housing Project in Kikuyu Constituency is progressing steadily, with the development expected to provide thousands of affordable homes while stimulating economic activities in the area.
The project, being implemented under the Government’s Affordable Housing Programme (AHP), forms part of the wider Muguga Agricity development, an integrated urban development expected to transform the area into a modern residential and commercial centre.
The Muguga Agricity housing project is planned to deliver approximately 3,000 housing units in two phases, providing a mix of housing options aimed at catering for Kenyans across different income groups.
According to project plans, the development is expected to incorporate supporting infrastructure and amenities to create a functional and sustainable residential community, rather than merely providing housing units.
Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichungw’ah said the ongoing construction was an important milestone for residents, noting that the project would have far-reaching economic benefits beyond the provision of houses.
“The Muguga Agricity Affordable Housing Project is not only about putting up houses. It is also about creating employment opportunities, supporting local businesses and opening up opportunities for many enterprises within the construction and supply chain,” said the MP.
The legislator said the project would create opportunities for skilled and unskilled workers, contractors, suppliers, transporters and other service providers as construction progresses.
He added that increased economic activity around the project would benefit surrounding communities by creating a market for goods and services while supporting household incomes.
The first phase of the development is currently characterised by ongoing construction works, with workers undertaking various activities to advance the housing blocks and associated infrastructure.
The Muguga Agricity development is also expected to contribute to the transformation of the Kikuyu area by attracting businesses and supporting infrastructure development as more residents and economic activities are accommodated.
The Affordable Housing Programme has increasingly been positioned by the Government as both a housing and economic development initiative, with construction projects across the country providing employment while creating markets for locally produced construction materials and services.
The project is part of the government’s broader effort to address the country’s housing deficit by increasing the supply of decent and affordable homes while promoting planned urban development.
Upon completion of the planned phases, the Muguga Agricity project is expected to provide a significant number of families with access to modern and affordable housing while strengthening economic opportunities for residents of Kikuyu and the wider Kiambu County.
