Police in Homa Bay are investigating the theft of Sh980,000 from a vehicle shortly after the money was withdrawn from a bank.
The cash was stolen on Wednesday afternoon after the proprietor of Comnex Contractor Limited, his brother and their driver stopped at Glory Hotel along the Homa Bay-Kisumu Road.
According to police, the group had withdrawn Sh980,000 from Equity Bank Homa Bay Branch at about 3:30pm before driving to the hotel in a black Toyota Passo.
They parked the vehicle outside the hotel and left the cash under the co-driver’s seat before going inside to have a meal.
On returning to the vehicle, they discovered that the co-driver’s window had been smashed and the money stolen.
Police officers from Homa Bay Police Station, the DCI and Crime Scene Investigators visited the scene and processed the vehicle.
Investigators established that the hotel has CCTV cameras, while a nearby petrol station also has surveillance cameras.
According to the preliminary review, footage from the petrol station captured a white Probox parked next to the complainant’s vehicle before it was driven away towards Kisumu.
Police have secured the available CCTV footage for further analysis as investigations continue to establish the identity of those behind the theft.
