The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced that the 2026 Proficiency Examination for Clerical Officers will take place from Monday, 21 September to Thursday, 24 September 2026, across nine centres in Kenya.
Centres confirmed for the examination include Machakos, Nyeri, Mombasa, Embu, Garissa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Kakamega and Eldoret. Candidates will receive the specific venue details after completing their registration.
Who Is Eligible to Register
To qualify for the examination, an officer must hold a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum mean grade of C- (minus) or its equivalent, be designated as a clerical officer in the public service, and have served in that capacity for at least one year.
First-time candidates are required to complete Form A, which must be signed by their Head of Department or Section, while resitting candidates should fill in Form B.
Both forms are available on the PSC website. Completed forms, together with a government copy of the E-Citizen payment receipt, must reach the Secretary and Chief Executive of the Public Service Commission at P.O. Box 30095-00100, Nairobi, by Friday, 28 August 2026.
Fees and How to Pay
Registration fees are set at KSh 2,625 as a basic fee, KSh 875 per paper for a total of seven papers, and an additional KSh 50 E-Citizen processing fee.
All payments must be made through the E-Citizen platform by logging in at psc.ecitizen.go.ke, selecting PSC Examinations, and following the step-by-step process to confirm details and complete payment. Once approved, candidates should download the payment receipt and attach it to their registration form.
Candidates who submit their forms after the 28 August deadline will attract a late registration fee of KSh 525. The final cut-off date for late registrations is Thursday, 3 September 2026.
Certificates From 2025 Exam Ready for Collection

Officers collecting certificates are required to present their original national identity card or passport. Those who passed promotional examinations in earlier years and are yet to collect their certificates have also been urged to do so.
