Nairobi: Police at Embakasi Police Station are investigating an arson incident at the GSU Embakasi B Campus, where a house belonging to a serving police officer was gutted by fire in the early hours of Friday, July 31.
The officer, identified as David Kwalanda, was inside his uni-hut residence with two women when his former girlfriend arrived at the camp at approximately 2am, according to a report filed at Embakasi Police Station.
According to TV47 Digital, her arrival sparked a confrontation between the two.
How fire started at GSU Embakasi
Kwalanda escorted the two women to the camp gate following the altercation. It was at that point that colleagues raised the alarm that his house was on fire.
"The complainant then escorted the two ladies out of the camp. While at the gate, he was alerted that his house was on fire," the police report read.
A police report revealed that fellow officers residing within the camp moved swiftly to extinguish the blaze before it could spread further, though the damage had already been done by the time the flames were brought under control.
Assorted household goods valued at approximately KSh 200,000 were destroyed, along with the police kit and other government stores issued to the officer. No injuries were recorded.
Suspect in GSU EMbakasi fire identified
Investigators are now treating Kwalanda's former girlfriend as the prime suspect in the arson. The police report indicates she is believed to have set the house alight after being escorted off the premises.
The incident has drawn attention amid growing public concern over arson attacks linked to domestic disputes in the country.
