Wiper Addresses Kalonzo's Alleged Deal With Gachagua After Wamunyoro Meeting
This story has significance for readers across Kenya and beyond.
The Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) has dismissed reports suggesting that its leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, has entered into a political deal with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following a meeting held at Gachagua’s Wamunyoro Residence.
In a statement on Thursday, August 20, the party said the meeting did not result in any exclusive political agreement between the two leaders.
"The Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) has noted media reports, including those carried by The Star, suggesting that a political deal has been concluded between Kalonzo Musyoka and Rigathi Gachagua. We wish to set the record straight: no such exclusive deal exists," the statement read.
WPF said the meeting at the Wamunyoro Residence was specifically convened by Gachagua as an appreciation event for WPF Members of Parliament and Senators who stood in solidarity with him during his impeachment proceedings.
"The meeting held on 17th August 2026 at the Wamunyoro Residence was convened by H.E. Rigathi Gachagua to thank WPF Members of Parliament and Senators for the solidarity they showed him during his impeachment," the statement added.

WPF maintained that it remains focused on working with other opposition parties to build a united political coalition ahead of the next electoral cycle.
"WPF remains committed to building a strong, principled coalition with its sister parties in the United Alternative Government In Waiting. That process will continue through open, transparent and inclusive engagement, guided by shared democratic values and the interests of the people of Kenya," the statement concluded.
This comes days after Kalonzo revealed that he is ready to support Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna if he is picked as the opposition flag bearer in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during an interview on Monday, August 10, he said he has no problem supporting the Nairobi Senator.
Kalonzo also said he is sure that Sifuna will support him if he is picked as the opposition flag bearer.
"I have no problem supporting Sifuna at all. I am also quite sure that Sifuna has no problem supporting me either. I have no problem supporting Gachagua; I stood with him at the hour of need during his impeachment," he said.
Kalonzo emphasized that the opposition is aware that President William Ruto's political survival depends on the division of the united opposition.
According to the Wiper leader, the key to defeating Ruto in the 2027 is for the opposition to remain united, regardless of who is ultimately chosen as its presidential flag bearer.
“We are aware that William Ruto’s only way to survive is to divide the united opposition. If we succeed in holding together. It matters not who is actually the flag bearer. It’s a common cause,” he added.
