Identities of seven people who lost their lives after a helicopter crashed on Mt Ololokwe in Samburu County have been revealed. The tragedy sent shockwaves through Kenya's aviation and adventure tourism circles.
Among those who perished was Josh Outram, the pilot at the controls and the founder of Africa Heli Adventures. Josh together with five Americans José Alberto Suárez, Roger Edward Duarte, Adam Martin Hlavaty, Henry Parra, and Stephany Maria Hollihan Vasconez were aboard the Eurocopter EC130 B4 when it went down at 9:13 am local time on Wednesday, August 19. Ecuador's intelligence chief, Michele Sensi-Contugi also died in the crash. He was on the aircraft with his wife, Stephany.
Who was Josh Outram?
More than just a company director, Josh was the heart of the outfit he built, a man whose deep love for flying over Kenya's vast and breathtaking landscapes translated into a business dedicated to sharing that experience with others.
Josh was widely regarded as someone whose passion for the Kenyan skies went far beyond a profession. Africa Heli Adventures was a reflection of that passion, offering aerial experiences that showcased the country's iconic terrain, from sweeping savannahs to dramatic northern landscapes like those found in Samburu.
His dedication to the skies made him a respected figure in the local aviation community, and for many who knew him or flew with him, the news of his passing is a deeply personal loss.
What Happened in Samburu?
The crash claimed all seven people on board, though details surrounding the cause of the accident have yet to be officially confirmed. The incident took place in Samburu, a county in northern Kenya known for its rugged wilderness and wildlife conservancies, areas that helicopter tours often traverse.
Photos of the pilot were shared on TikTok by a page that shares aviation reports. The page also shared a video showing the aircraft route map on the flight tracker website after takeoff and when it went down, losing communication.

The loss of an entire crew and passengers in a single incident makes this one of the more devastating aviation accidents to hit Kenya's private sector in recent memory.
Africa Heli Adventures represented a niche but growing corner of Kenya's tourism industry, offering clients an aerial perspective of some of the country's most remote and stunning regions. Josh's death leaves a significant gap in that space, and those who shared his passion for the skies will feel his absence keenly.
