Police in Kirinyaga have launched investigations into the murder of a 61-year-old woman whose body was discovered in a well at Kamugunda Village in Gichugu on Wednesday morning.
The deceased, identified as Lydia Wathitha, was reportedly found after residents raised concerns over suspicious activity in the area.
Her husband, James Njoka, said a farm worker who had been employed by the deceased is missing and is suspected to have fled after the incident.
He claimed the suspect had previously been sacked after allegedly stealing goods from their home.
Njoka said CCTV footage showed the suspect timing Wathitha while she was fetching water from the well.
Police officers and members of the public retrieved the body, with preliminary investigations indicating that she may have been killed before her body was dumped in the well in an apparent attempt to conceal the crime.
Detectives have launched a manhunt for the suspect as investigations continue.
