When Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, the third wife of Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, passed away suddenly on 15 August 2026, questions quickly began swirling online about the whereabouts of his close ally, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. Khalwale finally put those rumours to rest at Gloria's burial ceremony.
Standing before mourners, Khalwale revealed that Sifuna had not only sent condolences but had been one of the very first people to step up with tangible support for the grieving family.
"He sent me a message and asked me, where is Sylvia Wendo? Edwin, because you are a young person and I really don't know where you got it from, but you gave me KSh 500,000 that started off this burial's donations," Khalwale told mourners, crediting Sifuna with setting the tone for contributions towards the ceremony.
**Sifuna's Arrival Stops the Funeral**
Sifuna made the trip to Kakamega County on 21 August 2026 to attend the burial in person. His arrival was anything but quiet. Mourners erupted in cheers, briefly bringing the funeral proceedings to a halt as they celebrated his presence.
The warm reception came at a time when online commentary had been questioning Sifuna's absence from Khalwale's home in the immediate aftermath of Gloria's death. Shortly after the tragedy, Sifuna had posted a message of condolence: "Omwami @DrBKhalwale pole sana for your loss. May God comfort you and your family in this difficult time. Khulialala Omwami. May her soul rest in peace."
He attended the ceremony alongside fellow political allies from the Linda Mwananchi movement, including Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi.
**Khalwale Campaigns for Sifuna from the Funeral Podium**
Khalwale, who had previously endorsed Sifuna's presidential ambitions and joined the Linda Mwananchi movement, used the burial as an opportunity to publicly drum up support for the Nairobi senator, introducing him to the crowd as "the next president."
He then turned directly to the crowd with a political appeal: "Now, the great people of Kakamega County, I want 1 million votes from you to Edwin Sifuna so that I can go sit with the President and tell him, my former president, how are you and how does it feel? Please pray for Sifuna because he has a lot of serious security implications," Khalwale said, brushing aside the circulating rumours in the process.
Khalwale also assured Sifuna that he would be given sufficient time to address those gathered at the service.
